I’ve been reading a little about blogging which is like lots of things I do…read about, plan, think, prepare. And then it comes time to “do.” This is where I am finally! (Not so with housecleaning. Still in the “think about” with many other things stepping in front of a dust-free living room!)
I have lots of posting ideas rolling around in my head. That’s pretty easy with a classroom full of stories waiting to be told! So, I decided to Start with the End because it’s freshest in mind for now.
The last semester of school continually picked up speed as usual with curriculum, field trips, special events, and interrupted schedules for a variety of reasons. Somehow I figured I could add in more as I discovered a new and exciting option of pen pals. (Thanks to our technology director who shared this opportunity that he found in Edmodo!) We signed up, partnered with 3 other schools, became part of Cluster 13 Pen Pals, and were off and running with it. No regrets!
Most fascinating to us were our Australian pen pals. We were really talking, sharing, posting, replying, and learning week by week with new classroom friends literally around the world! I honestly don’t know who was learning more – me or my students! The excitement that new, fun, valuable learning brings was contagious – even spilled over to the parents. We ended our year with a Skype session, and even though that was a totally new learning curve for me as well, I’m happy that I got my feet wet with that too.
This entire new learning adventure was a great reminder that not only are my students taught to take a leap, to try something new, and to share with others, but that educators should and can do this too! You never know what will happen…. kinda like becoming a blogger….
