At this time of year, with the busyness of opening a classroom, meeting families, attending meetings, planning lessons, looking through new curriculum, integrating summer learning and new practices, and – I think I’ll stop there – I’ve often thought that if I could have a luxury, now would be the time that I would choose a personal chef! Imagine, coming home to a healthy, fresh meal, all prepared, and kitchen cleaned up from the prep. Heavenly!
Now, what would that personal chef’s recipe look like? A recipe tailored exactly to your liking. If he was preparing what you TRULY need, what would be your recipe’s ingredients?
Our headmaster @POPCSLeadership reminded us in our back-to-school staff meeting to make sure to take care of ourselves this school year so we can be ready for school and ministry, day-in, day-out. Without enough down time, sleep, exercise, eating right, and staying in the Word, a day can feel rougher than reality would have it.
Back to the recipe; here are some satisfying ingredients that shape and define who I am that I’d include for a personalized “meal.”
Bible verses – whole, as many as possible
A large measure of family and friends
Daily doses of time in nature
Heaping stacks of a variety of books
Fresh, always in season, Personal Learning Network (PLN)
Regular exercise in several varieties
Generous amounts of creativity, laughter, kindness, and smiles
Toppings of chocolate alongside coffee – not optional!
To satisfy cravings of the soul, begin with Christ. Allow Him to fill you with His Spirit, giving you peace, hope, and joy for sustenance.
Next, gather all remaining ingredients; remember to stay flexible, and
adjust all amounts as necessary for full flavor each day.
Finally, mix all together. Serve with a side of great attitude, and reap the benefits of this healthy meal.
How about you? What’s in your recipe?
