That’s what I’m going to say on Friday at the beginning of our Tech Inservice. No, not out of boredom or rudeness – I’m leading a section of our school’s inservice! Conversation among teachers is what is necessary for “Becoming a Connected Educator.”
What was unexpected to me, which I’ve now gotten used to, is that I’m the one planning the talking this time. A year ago it may have been doubtful, 9 months ago probably unlikely, 6 months ago still questionable, and yet 5 months ago and forward….now I have something to talk about!
I’m looking forward to sharing what has happened in the last 5 months. My PLN (Professional Learning Network) has skyrocketed! In all honesty, real deal, my PLN before this time period was small, which naturally resulted in minimal growth. Nothing against the learning that I was involved in, I just never realized what I was missing because the boundaries I allowed were so limiting.
While I’m not giving my agenda and Keynote slide presentation now, I will say that I had to spend some time narrowing and channeling the many things that I want to share into an organized, concise format. Surprisingly, some of what I’m looking forward to on Friday is discovering the unknown.
It’s unknown to me the extent of social media practices in personal and classroom use already among our school staff. It’s unknown to me where exactly the session will lead itself (makes me think of the EdCamp format from what I’ve read. Attending EdCampDallas in October!). It’s unknown to me what things teachers will walk away with as their own Take-Away.
My hope is to open a door, begin a domino effect, or initiate a spark towards helping others becoming a connected educator. It’s also my plan to continue growth in my own PLN. Because of Twitter, Global Pen Pals, and blogging, it’s really true to say the sky’s the limit. I hope to see you in 1004 on Friday. Let’s talk!
